On 9th August 1965 the first example of the iconic Ford Transit rolled off the production line in Langley, Berkshire. A legend was born. Fifty years later and Britain still loves the Transit. It is an iconic household brand that has featured in everyone’s life story, we’ve taken it into our hearts. Quite simply it is the best new and used selling van in the UK. We're hoping to raise £10,000 for charity
To celebrate the Ford Transit’s 50th birthday, Manheim is holding a fortnight of birthday sale events from 3rd to 14th August at all seven of its commercial vehicle auction centres and Manheim Online. At each auction event, for each Transit sold, Manheim will pledge £10 to charity, with £5 donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity long-supported by Ford UK, and £5 going to the Manheim Foundation.
The birth of a legend
By 1976, 1 million Transits had rolled off the line with subsequent million markers passing by in 1985, 1994, 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2013
By the end of 2015, 9 million examples of Transit will have been produced. Lined end-to-end the queue of Transits would be 31,000 miles long - more than enough to circle the globe!
Since reporting records began in 2006, Manheim Commercial Vehicles have sold over 84,000 Transits at a total hammer price of £353 million (plus VAT)!
