Update from James Leese, Chief Customer Officer - Cox Automotive
It’s almost two months since dealers reopened their doors in England – and a few weeks less for those in Wales and Scotland. Demand for used vehicles has been high and our auction programme has attracted huge volumes of buyers. But, I think it’s fair to say that everyone in the industry remains cautious about the challenges ahead.
At Cox Automotive, all our businesses are back-up and running and it’s great to be supporting customers again.
We are seeing strong arrivals at all Manheim Vehicle Services sites – with despatches and the number of cars in storage increasing too. Our Movex platform is experiencing increased volumes and recently saw a record number of job postings placed on the platform. Our Manheim Inspection Services business is also busy too.
We will be continuing to run online-only auction sales throughout August, and have an extensive sales programme in place. We have seen strong performances from our online programme over the last few weeks – across cars and LCV - with conversion rates exceeding expectations.
Our recently launched support package – Accelerate - makes it easier for customers to buy online, has also been well-received, which is great to see.
The pandemic has forced us all to work differently and think differently. We’ve been working with our vendor customers closely to ensure sales not only go ahead but remain engaging, fun and productive. Our teams will always be happy to discuss new solutions so don’t hesitate to talk to us.
While things are hopefully looking up for our industry, there’s clearly a long road ahead which we’ll face together.
The recent local lockdown in Leicester reminds us that Covid-19 is very much present in our communities. We continue to take every precaution to ensure our premises are Covid secure – the wellbeing of our team members and customers will always come first.
Finally, we know the pandemic is causing many dealers to think differently about their business. Thank you to everyone who responded to our recent Sentiment Survey. The survey always produces some interesting results. This latest one revealed that 35% of dealers believe it will lead to them permanently changing the way they do business.
It also showed us that dealers will increasingly adopt a multi-channel approach to their stock acquisition in the future. The good news is that we are perfectly set-up to help you do just that and here to support you!
Keep an eye on this website and our social media channels for the latest updates and I wish your business continued success on this road to recovery!
Stay safe and well.
James

Cox Automotive UK CEO, Martin Forbes, has recorded a video update on how we’ve reacted to the coronavirus pandemic and why ‘doing the right thing’ continues to guide our decision making.
Cox Automotive has put the health and wellbeing of our people and customers before all else throughout this emergency and will continue to do so.
We are currently developing reactivation plans around the business, ensuring we are ready and prepared for when UK Government restrictions change. We will be first out the blocks to help our customers get the wheels of our industry turning again.
