Manheim 100 - A century of innovation
A CENTURY OF INNOVATION
This year, Manheim in the UK celebrates its 100th birthday. This is a magnificent milestone for any organisation and a unique one within our sector. At a time when car ownership was yet to become mainstream, our founders were not just pioneering motor auctions in the UK, but the concept of a wholesale marketplace with associated services full stop.
The Manheim we know today started life in the UK as Central Motor Mart. Its founders were genuine innovators and this pioneering spirit is something that’s been part of our DNA ever since. Mergers and acquisitions saw the business grow and diversify and in 1996 it was acquired by Manheim and rebranded to become the business we all know today. And of course, it's now an integral part of the wider Cox Automotive business.
Much has happened since those first auctions in 1921, but that entrepreneurial spirit remains core to our business today. Our history is proof that we’ve never stood still and as we embark on our next chapter, our centenary is the perfect time to both celebrate our past and look ahead to our future.
What's coming up
Throughout the year we’ll be celebrating our birthday by telling our story of a century of innovation, remembering the moments that helped define our sector and talking to those who were there.
We’ll explore the Manheim of today – and reflect on why, as part of Cox Automotive, we continue to evolve on our auction hall roots. Plus, we’ll look ahead to our tomorrows and consider what’s in store as we enter our second century.
We’ll be sharing more details soon, so keep an eye on our dedicated Manheim at 100 page or on our social channels for further updates! In the meantime, you can share your Manheim stories from over the years using the hashtag #Manheim100
